Needing Cover: Improvisational One-Patch Quilting
Thoughts of being securely tucked at bedtime under heavy, old fashioned quilts made by my great-great-grandmother figure prominently in my childhood remembrances. We will begin this studio course with a survey of antique and contemporary improvisational one-patch quilts. Students will machine piece a lap-sized top, assemble the three layers, hand tie the layers together, and bind the finished quilt... all without measuring! Students will also learn a fool-proof method for creating continuous bias-edge bindings. Depending upon length of class and complexity of design, students may complete the quilt during the course.

Honorarium: 2-4 day course, $625 per 6-hour day
Studio fee: $15 per student
Class max size: 15 students
Special considerations: Appropriate for beginning to advanced quilters. Students will be asked to bring: a familiar sewing machine and owner’s manual, a number of yards of pre-washed upholstery fabric, upholstery thread, cotton batting, pearl cotton thread, a quilting hoop, denim machine needles, a cutting mat, acrylic quilter’s ruler, a rotary cutter, scissors, and straight pins. A materials list will be provided for registration materials. Requires digital projector and an environment that can be darkened. Studio materials will be shipped to the instruction site prior to the course.
